DEJANOVIC: PARLIAMENT SHOWS SERIOUSNESS IN DEBATE ON KOSOVO

BELGRADE, July 29 (Tanjug) - Parliament Speaker Djukic Dejanovic said that the parliament showed political unity and expressed the required degree of seriousness during a debate on the government's measures regarding the ICJ advisory opinion. "Dialogue in the parliament has for a time now been a means of communication among deputies, and when it comes to important issues such as sovereignty and integrity of our country, the unity of the government and parliament, the seriousness of deputies and the atmosphere in the parliament did not strike me as a surprise," Dejanovic told adding that she is very satisfied with the atmosphere. The parliament speaker said that she cannot say with certainty whether the parliament will maintain the same level of debate and communication during other discussions and activities, but pointed out that "for such a par excellence subject for the state, government and the assembly, the level of seriousness was really needed." A total of 192 deputies voted "for" the Decision on the continuation of activities in the defense of Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the text of the decision, Assembly finds it necessary to reach through peaceful negotiations a permanent, sustainable and mutually acceptable solution for Kosovo-Metohija, in accordance with the Constitution of Serbia, which will pave the way for a historic reconciliation of the Serbian and Albanian people, as well as peace and stability in the region.The document calls for national unity and announces the use of all available diplomatic and political means to preserve Serbia's territorial integrity.
