Mrkic - KohutMinisters of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and the Czech Republic Ivan Mrkic and Jan Kohout assessed today that the two countries were tied by decades-long friendship, constituting a foundation for their common future within the EU framework.
"We have always supported Serbia's path of European integration and will continue to support it. The EU will not be complete until Serbia and other countries of the Western Balkans have joined it", Kohout said at the joint press conference with Mrkic.
According to him, the Czech Republic will continue to support Serbia on that issue not only politically, but practically as well, sharing its experience from the EU accession process.
Recalling that the two countries had established their diplomatic relations almost 100 years ago, Mrkic underlined that Serbia and the Czech Republic shared their present and future in common.
"The Czech Republic has always been the country that supported us in the achievement of our priority goal – EU membership. It has always declared itself in favour of having Serbia join the EU. This visit testifies to the fact that our consultations are continuously on-going and that we are seeking ways of accelerating the process in order to commence the Serbia-EU negotiations", stated the Serbian Foreign Minister.
He assessed the relations between the two countries as excellent and said that they would continue to further improve in the future.
One of the topics of their discussions was economic cooperation, that is, the possibilities of the Czech Republic to invest in the energy sector and Serbian railways.
Mrkic also announced that President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman would visit Serbia at the beginning of next year and Kohout announced that he would have talks with Mrkic in New York, in the coming week, on the fringes of the UN General Assembly and subsequently also in Prague.
