VUCIC: SERBIA IS CHINA'S TRUE FRIEND

BELGRADE, 12 September 2017 (Beta) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met in Belgrade, on Sept. 12, with a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and the secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, Meng Jianzhu. Vucic underlined that Serbia was a true friend to China and expressed gratitude for the friendship and respect China had demonstrated toward Serbia. The Serbian president stressed that bilateral political relations were extraordinary and that economic ties were getting stronger by the day, thanking China's HBIS for taking over Zelezara Smederevo and for its successful management of the steel mill and good business results. Meng, the Chinese president's special envoy, emphasized that Serbia-China relations were developing to the benefit of both nations. He conveyed greetings from the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, stressing that relations between Belgrade and Beijing had survived all challenges and changes on the international political scene.

VUCIC GIVES CONDOLENCES TO LEADERS OF U.S., CUBA, CARIBBEAN STATES

BELGRADE, 12 September 2017 (Beta) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic voiced on Sept. 12 his condolences to the leaders of the U.S., Cuba and other Caribbean states that were struck by hurricanes. "Serbia is thousands of kilometers from the U.S., but we too watched in fear as hurricane Harvey, followed by hurricane Irma, approached the U.S. mainland, the merciless forces of nature. We greeted the news of casualties and huge material damage with sadness," Vucic said in a condolence letter to the president and vice president of the U.S., Donald Trump and Mike Pence. In his letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, Vucic said that, in anticipation of their meeting at the U.N. General Assembly, he wished to stress that "Serbia is strongly devoted to contributing to peace, stability and progress."
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic gave his condolences to his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla over the plight of people caught in hurricane Irma, adding that Serbia "is a true friend and reliable partner to brotherly Cuba."

MINISTERS OF SERBIA, BULGARIA ON ENHANCING MILITARY-ECONOMIC COOPERATION

BELGRADE, 12 September 2017 (Beta) - Minister of Defense of Serbia Aleksandar Vulin and Bulgarian Minister of the Economy Emil Lyubenov Karanikolov met on Sept. 12 to discuss advancing economic relations, especially in the defense industry. They talked about cooperation between Bulgaria's biggest manufacturer of ammunition, VMZ, and "producers of ammunition components" in Serbia, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.
