BRUSSELS, 31 August 2017 (Beta) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that the talks during the Aug. 31 round of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue had been "frank," on the implementation of the agreements reached so far, that it had been agreed for the judiciary agreement to be carried out, but that he saw little chance for solving the long-standing historical issues between the Serbs and the Albanians. After the meeting with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, Vucic said that this small opportunity for solving the Serb-Albanian historical issue should be utilized and that this was opened during the Aug. 31 round of the dialogue. The Serbian president said that, besides the agreement in the talks on the judiciary and the bridge across the Ibar until the end of the year, "more lasting solutions," about which the Serbian delegation had its own ideas, would be of great importance for relations between the two peoples and for the development and stability of the entire region. That would be of great use for the forming of the Community of Serb Municipalities, but it was acknowledged, Vucic said, that Pristina had made no progress in that regard. He said that, during the meeting with Thaci and Mogherini, he raised the issue of the arrest of Serb Bogdan Mitrovic in Suva Reka in Kosovo, stating that it was "the height of hypocrisy" and that something like that should not have happened. "He is a man with three daughters and two sons, who had gone there many times and registered on the list," the Serbian president said. Vucic said that it was "interesting that he was reported by a neighbor who usurped and stole his property, and reported him after 18 years, I guess out of fear that he would want it back." He said Serbia would monitor everything in connection with the "Mitrovic case" and that he hoped it would be solved quickly and favorably.

BRUSSELS, 31 August 2017 (Beta) - EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said on Aug. 31 that an agreement had been reached in talks with the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci, for work to continue on the new phase of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, for the normalization of relations and reconciliation. This work will continue over the next few weeks, Mogherini said, adding that Vucic and Thaci agreed to carry out the final steps in the implementation of the agreement on the judiciary, which was reached in the EU-mediated dialogue. The two presidents said the agreement on the judiciary would be fully implemented by Oct. 17, the statement reads. On that day, the judges, prosecutors and court personnel will be fully included in the judiciary of Kosovo, the high representative said, adding that the inclusion of court personnel will enable the implementation of the judiciary throughout Kosovo, especially in the territory of Mitrovica. Mogherini said that she welcomed the two presidents' dedication to the process. She said the EU and she personally were fully in favor of the prospects of EU membership for Serbia, Kosovo and the entire region, and that the two sides' progress on the path to the EU was firmly connected with progress in the dialogue.
