SERBIA, SLOVAKIA COOPERATE IN CURBING CRIME

BELGRADE, 4 January 2018 (Beta) - Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and Slovak Ambassador Dagmar Repcekova signed on Jan. 4 a Memorandum of Understanding between the Serbian and Slovak interior ministries aimed at strengthening cooperation in curbing crime. A statement released in Belgrade said that that the signing of the document would enable "good operative cooperation between Serbian and Slovak police in the battle against corruption and crime to continue." "We already have good cooperation with Slovak police, especially in the area of preserving border safety," Stefanovic said, adding that Slovakia had offered to continue its assistance. "So far six groups of Slovak police have been to Serbia, where they worked in association with their Serbian colleagues to protect the state border. This cooperation will continue and the seventh group will arrive already on Jan. 15," Ambassador Repcekova announced.

COOPERATION BETWEEN BELGRADE, ZAGREB NECESSARY FOR REGIONAL STABILITY

ZAGREB, 4 January 2018 (Beta) - U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee said on Jan. 4 that the U.S. believed in Serbia's important role in regional stability and added that cooperation between Croatia and Serbia was important for that and that they must find a solution for the difficult problems they had. In an interview with the N1 regional TV station in Zagreb, the State Department's number one man for Southeast Europe said that in the border dispute between Croatia and Slovenia the U.S. would not take sides as it believed that the two countries were capable of reaching a solution on their own. As for the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the U.S. diplomat said that there was no need for a "Dayton 2," but that the authorities needed to focus on reforms to quicken the country's road to the EU.
