As part of his official visit to the Republic of Ghana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić met today in Accra with Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Edward Omani Boamah.

Recalling the long-standing friendship and close cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, Minister Đurić emphasized that, building on this foundation, Serbia is firmly committed to strengthening overall bilateral cooperation with Ghana, with a particular focus on the defence sector.

“We view Ghana as a strategic partner in this region and believe that we can achieve a great deal together by opening a new chapter in our bilateral cooperation,” Minister Đurić stated.

During the meeting, Minister Đurić extended an invitation to the Ghanaian Minister of Defence to attend the International Arms and Military Equipment Fair “Partner,” which will be held in Serbia this September.

In discussing opportunities to enhance defence cooperation, Đurić highlighted the Defence Cooperation Agreement signed between Serbia and Ghana in 2023 as a framework for future activities.

He also pointed out that joint training programs and the exchange of peacekeeping experiences could significantly contribute to advancing bilateral defence cooperation, particularly given that both Serbia and Ghana are among the leading contributors to multinational peace operations on their respective continents.

Minister Đurić briefed his counterpart on the current situation in the Western Balkans and Serbia’s ongoing efforts to promote regional stability. The meeting also included discussions on current global developments and shared challenges.
