As a part of the commemoration of 140 years of the friendship between Serbia and Japan, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo organised a poetry night, during which the poet and Professor of Japanese studies at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade Kayoko Yamasaki read her poems in Japanese from the newest poetry collections “We should go to the sea” and “When Silence Falls”.

Presenting her poetic expression, the poet spoke about many of her themes and memories about Serbia, its history and culture.

In her introductory speech, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Tokyo Aleksandra Kovač emphasised Professor Yamasaki’s long-time, rich and diverse contributions to the relations between Serbia and Japan.

She said that poetry had the power to express a message as no other art form could, and that Professor Yamasaki’s words had brought a humanist voice to this time and this world which is facing so many challenges.

The event was attended by members of the management of the Society of the Friendship Japan-Serbia, representatives of the academic community, literature students from reputable Tokyo universities and other friends of the Embassy.
