25. Jun 2025.
On the margins of the 55th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States, held in St. John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Dušan Kozarev met with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Suriname, Miriam MacIntosh.

The two sides reaffirmed the steady advancement of bilateral relations in recent years, marked by a growing trend of mutual visits, high-level exchanges, and the strengthening of diplomatic ties.

Permanent Secretary MacIntosh underscored that Suriname has withdrawn its recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, and continues to adhere to a principled position grounded in respect for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

Secretary General Kozarev expressed his gratitude for this unequivocal position and emphasized the importance of Suriname’s confirmed participation in Expo 2027. He also highlighted Serbia’s strong commitment to enhancing its presence and deepening relations with the countries of the Americas, further demonstrated by the active participation of Minister Marko Đurić at this year’s session in St. John’s.

He invited Suriname to make use of the scholarship quota for nine students offered by the Serbian Government under the “World in Serbia” program for the upcoming academic year.

Both sides agreed to explore opportunities in the coming period to expand the bilateral legal framework and to focus on capacity building, as well as to mutually encourage economic, scientific, and security cooperation—with particular emphasis on addressing cyber threats.
