HEALTH SITUATION – The Republic of Armenia has professional doctors and medical staff, but the number of well-equipped hospitals and healthcare institutions is relatively small, and they are mostly located in Yerevan and other cities. The drug (medicine) market is well supplied, but the types and the quality of drugs (medication) differ. Travelers to Armenia are advised to obtain health insurance during their stay.
Information on the current health situation in the Republic of Armenia can be found on the World Health Organization website https://www.who.int/countries/arm/
SECURITY SITUATION – Armenia is generally a safe country. The land border with Azerbaijan is closed, so as a precaution, travel to the border areas towards Azerbaijan is not advised.
The land border with Türkiye is still closed, but air traffic has been established between the two countries (Yerevan-Istanbul). Armenia's land, rail and air traffic to Georgia and Iran operates smoothly.
Demonstrations and protests are occasionally organized in Armenia, so such gatherings should be avoided, and the media as well as instructions and warnings issued by local authorities should be followed.
The crime rate is low. Armenia is a safe country for foreign citizens, although, as in any other country, one should be vigilant about possible petty crime.
TRANSPORT – The most important airport in the Republic of Armenia is the Zvartnots airport, in the capital Yerevan, through which, in addition to the land border crossings with Georgia, international passenger transport is carried out. The borders with Azerbaijan and Türkiye are closed.
The road network is well developed, but the railway network much less so. Public transport is affordable. Although Armenia's road infrastructure has improved significantly in recent years, some local roads are not in the best condition, and driving standards vary, requiring extra caution. Travelling at night and in the winter months is not recommended.
Driver's license from the Republic of Serbia is valid on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Persons who have a regulated stay in Armenia may, if they wish, exchange their national (Serbian) driver's license for an Armenian one. If travelling by car from the Republic of Serbia, it is necessary to buy basic vehicle insurance (the international "Green Card" does not apply) in the Republic of Armenia. The insurance premium depends on engine power, age and driving experience.
OTHER INFORMATION – The national currency is the Armenian dram (AMD). The most common international credit and debit cards are used mostly in Yerevan and other cities, in larger hotels, restaurants and shops, but you should keep in mind that there are still places where they cannot be used, so you should also have cash in reserve.
