Political relations
The exchange of official visits by the foreign ministers after a long interval of four decades was of exceptional importance for renewing traditionally friendly ties with Benin and restoring the good cooperation established during the period of our country’s active participation in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Following the visit of the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, to Serbia on 7–8 November 2024, political dialogue and bilateral relations have been on an upward trajectory, providing fresh impetus for the development of overall cooperation. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, paid an official visit to Benin on 27–30 July 2025, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and several agreements were signed. Bilateral political consultations between the two foreign ministries were held in Benin on 29 July 2025 and in Belgrade on 5 May 2026.
