Political relations
Bilateral cooperation and relations are aimed at developing friendly ties based on a shared history and traditionally close links between the two peoples. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Political dialogue focuses on both bilateral issues and strengthening regional cooperation, and the two countries have a practice of holding joint sessions of their governments, two of which have been held to date. Dialogue takes place at all levels. The then President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, met on 24 September 2026 in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, while the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Đuro Macut, visited Ohrid on 31 July 2026.
Particular emphasis is placed on further developing cooperation in the fields of infrastructure and energy. On 27 August 2026, a contract for the construction of the Serbia–North Macedonia gas interconnector was signed. The Republic of North Macedonia, together with the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Albania, was one of the three founding members of the “Open Balkan” initiative, whose traditional wine, food and tourism fair is held in Belgrade. The Republic of North Macedonia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027.
Economic relations
The priorities of the overall cooperation relate to the infrastructural connection: completion of Corridor 10, construction of the gas connection Vranje-Kumanovo (the project is still at the level of the conceptual design, without a signed document of two parties), construction of the railway (Budapest)-Belgrade-Skopje agreement between China, Serbia, Hungary and S. Macedonia) and reconstruction and modernization of the Belgrade-Niš and Niš-Preševo-border sections with N. Macedonia. The project for the construction of the Niš-Štip transmission line was realized, which was put into operation in 2016 (400 KV, 70 km long). The backbone is trade cooperation and exchange.
According to the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, total trade in goods with North Macedonia in 2025 amounted to EUR 1.5 billion, of which exports from the Serbia accounted for EUR 1.1 billion, while imports amounted to EUR 0.4 billion.

A total of 80 international agreements have been signed between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of North Macedonia, including the following:

Agreement between the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on the International Road Transport of Passengers and Goods, signed on 4 September 1996
