Political relations
Bilateral relations are particularly good and meaningful. The two countries are pursuing an intensive and continuous political dialogue at all levels.
The Slovak national minority in Serbia, as well as the Serbian national minority in Slovakia, contribute to the relations between the two countries. The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dačić had a bilateral meeting with the former Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia R. Kačer on the sidelines of the conference “Safety of journalists: protecting journalists in order to protect democracy” on 4 November 2022 in Vienna. The then Minister of Foreign Affairs N. Selaković met with the former Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic R. Kačer on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on 23 September 2022 in New York. N. Selaković met with the then State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia M. Klus on the sidelines of the 132nd Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Europe on 19-20 May 2022 in Turin. The former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Slovakia R. Sulik visited Serbia on 8 October 2021. The then Minister of Foreign Affairs N. Selaković visited Slovakia on 28 and 29 October 2021. Тhe former Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korčok visited Serbia on 8 February 2021. Тhe former State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic I. Brockova visited Serbia on 26 and 27 April 2021. The Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić visited Slovakia in December 2018. Former Speaker of the Slovak Parliament A. Danko visited Serbia in June 2018. The then Prime Minister of Slovakia P. Pellegrini visited Serbia in May 2019. The then Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčák visited Serbia in June 2019.
Slovakia and Serbia are linked by traditionally friendly relations and the closeness of the two peoples in the common geopolitical and cultural-historical space of Europe. At the turning points of their historical struggle for freedom and independence during the 20th century, the two countries found support in each other, and their peoples returned friendship and support.
Economic relations
There is mutual interest and space for improving economic cooperation.
In 2022, trade in goods amounted to 1,104.9 million euros, of which domestic exports were 645.4 million euros, and imports 459.5 million euros. In 2021, the total volume of foreign trade amounted to 792.9 million euros, of which domestic exports were 442.3 million euros, and imports 350.6 million euros.
In the period 2010-2022. investment inflow from Slovakia amounted to 108.7 million euros, of which almost 60% was realized in 2021 and 2022. Only in 2021. the inflow of foreign direct investments from Slovakia reached the amount of 21.9 million euros, and in 2022. 42.1 million euros, so Slovakia in 2022. ranked 19th among the largest foreign investors.
The leading Slovak investor is Amphenol Automotive Technology (automotive industry, Trstenik, EUR 4 million), which employs around 1,000 workers. Then follows: Tatravagonka a.s. Poprad (metal industry, Subotica, EUR 7.4 million), Aqua Therm Invest / Petroland (tourism, Bački Petrovac EUR 21 million), BGS Alfa BP BGS Beta BP BGS Gama BP (energy/biogas, Bač), Credo agency (energy / mini hydropower plant, Niš 2 million euros), Koliba zp s.r.o. (food, Rekovac), Prima Energy / Beočin Energy (energy / solar power plant, Belgrade), Biopel (pellet production, Bački Petrovac), ATI-Terming (machinery, Kula), DSC/ Black Horse (automotive, Sombor).
The Slovak company Inobat has expressed interest in building a battery factory for electric vehicles in Serbia (a plant in Serbia should be opened by 2025).
