Ambassador Marković: Serbian tourists are fine, no one is endangered

"This morning, two planes with 300 Serbian citizens landed in Bodrum, almost all of them are in their hotels. Three families did not go to the hotel rooms they booked, but were moved to other hotels, and they comprise of between six and 12 people. There are some other families who came earlier and they were transferred to other hotels temporarily", Marković told Tanjug.

He emphasizes that not only Serbian tourists were evacuated, but everyone.

"It is about 3,000 people, mostly from Russia and Ukraine, and they were evacuated for security reasons, because the wind blows smoke towards hotels, and power outages are possible during the night", the ambassador added.

"Out of 98 fires, 88 are under full control, while smaller hotspots remain, so firefighters are trying to bring the remaining ten fires under control. The Russians are helping with their planes, and I saw in the Turkish media that Azerbaijani firefighters also joined in. With all the troubles around the pandemic, now these fires also broke out", stated Marković.

He told all Serbian citizens to contact the Serbian embassy in Ankara if there is a need for that.

"So far no one has called to ask for help. My phone is available 24 hours a day, they can call me, we from the embassy are there if they need us. The situation is calming down, but the truth is, no one is comfortable seeing a fire 500 meters away and black smoke as it goes towards them", says Marković.

The ambassador said that six Turkish citizens have been killed so far, and as he said, one was killed in Marmaris, and the other two in the villages on their way to Antalya.

When it comes to foreign tourists, he adds, there are no casualties.
