Antigua: Opening of the exhibition commemorating the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Guatemala

The exhibition of photographs about Serbia taken by photographer Dragan Bosnić was officially inaugurated as part of the cultural segment marking 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Guatemala at the National Art Museum of Guatemala in Antigua

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Ambassador Ava Atsum Arevalo de Moscoso, Director of the Museum and representative of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Guatemala Cindy Sosa, as well as Irena Kovačević Kuzmanović, chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Mexico, spoke at the opening.

In her address, Ambassador Atsum Arevalo de Moscoso conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, who was out of the country at the time. She emphasized the importance of marking the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and, in that context, underlined the exceptional cooperation that exists between the two countries. She also emphasized the commitment towards the further improving the overall bilateral cooperation and bringing the two peoples closer together, while highlighting that the photo exhibition about Serbia is instrumental in bringing our country closer to the citizens of Guatemala. She announced that in the coming period, Guatemala will also offer Serbia an exhibition of representative photos of Guatemala as part of the celebration of this important jubilee, thanking the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Mexico for their efforts in the realization of this photo exhibition.

Chargé d'affaires Ms. Kovačević Kuzmanović highlighted the extraordinary cooperation between the two countries, expressing expectations that it will continue with the same dynamic in the coming period. She pointed out that Serbia, with this exhibition of photos about our country, is marking a significant jubilee, and also reminded the guests that the Guatemalan public already had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with a part of our rich cultural and historical heritage during the exhibition of photos about Serbian medieval monasteries on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which took place in May and June in the National Palace. Furthermore, she introduced the attendees with the oeuvre of our prominent photographer Dragan Bosnić, inviting the guests present to visit Serbia in order to get personally acquainted with the natural beauty, tradition, culture and history of our country.

The Director of the Museum, Cindy Sosa, expressed her pleasure that the museum in Antigua has the opportunity to host a photo exhibition about a country that is geographically distant, yet close. She emphasized that the exhibition of photographs about Serbia is one of the first events organized in the renovated and revitalized museum complex, whose ceremonial inauguration was recently held.

After the cutting of the ribbon, which officially marked the opening of the exhibition, the charge d'affaires Ms, Kovačević Kuzmanović led the present guests on a tour of the exhibition, with a review and explanation of each photo individually.

The ceremonial opening of the exhibition was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries in the Government of Guatemala, representatives of Guatemalan institutions, ambassadors accredited in that country, a small number of citizens of the Republic of Serbia who live and work in that country, as well as numerous citizens and tourists who were staying in Antigua.
