Fujian: Ambassador Stefanović at the 22nd China International Fair of Investment and Trade 2022

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Beijing Maja Stefanović and Economic Advisor Milanka Stojaković participated in the 22nd China International Fair of Investment and Trade 2022 (CIFIT) held from 6 to 10 September in Fujian province.

This Fair is one of the most significant events in the field of investments in the world, organised by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the Fujian Provincial Government and the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen.

Invited by the organisers, the Ambassador gave an introductory speech at the opening of the 1st Gulangyu Forum on investment, organised on 8 September as part of CIFIT, in which, in addition to the Vice-Governor of Fujian Province, participated the Mayor of Xiamen, the Assistant Minister of Commerce of China Guo Tingting, representatives of numerous institutions of the province and the Chinese central government, Chinese businessmen, ambassadors from Beijing and others.

Ambassador Stefanović also gave an introductory speech at the opening of the forum „Cooperation between China (Fujien province) and Serbia in the field of economy and innovation“, which was attended by Vice-Governor of Fujian province Kang Tao, representatives of the Government of Fujian province, the Government of Longyan Municipality, as well as „Zijin“ company leaders and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo.

On the margins of the 22nd Chinese International Fair of Investment and Trade 2022, Ambassador Stefanović spoke at the presentation of wines and food products from Serbia, organised in cooperation with representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen, which was attended by representatives of numerous Chinese institutions (representatives of the Government of Fujian province, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen, etc.), prospective importers, etc.

Along with the presentation of Serbia's export opportunities, the importance of the Open Balkan initiative was emphasised as well, which, along with the establishment of direct flights between Belgrade and Beijing, as well as the anticipated free trade agreement between Serbia and China, opens numerous opportunities for the promotion of trade cooperation between China and Serbia.

Ambassador Stefanović and Economic Adviser Stojaković also visited Serbia's stand at CIFIT, where wines and food products imported from Serbia were exhibited.

In addition to participating in this renowned fair, the Ambassador also visited the Shanghang county, the headquarters of „Zijin“ company and the copper mine of the same name. During her visit to the Shanghang county, Ambassador Stefanović met with Secretary of the Communist Party of China of that county Wang Bo, and the meeting was also attended by the leaders of „Zijin“ company, including the Executive Director/President Zou Laichang. The interlocutors emphasised their mutual interest in the further development of Serbia's cooperation with the Shanghang county, as well as with „Zijin“ company.

During her visit to Xiamen, the Ambassador participated in a joint meeting of a group of ambassadors in China with Governor of Fujian province Zhao Long, as well as a joint dinner hosted by the Governor in honour of the opening of this fair. During the talks, mutual readiness for further intensification of overall cooperation between Serbia and this Chinese province was confirmed, and Governor Zhao was invited to visit Serbia.

Ambassador Stefanović had a meeting with Li Weihua, a Standing Committee Member and Head of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China in Xiamen. At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the intensification of social contacts, the strengthening of educational, cultural and economic, especially investment cooperation between Xiamen and Serbia.
