Tokyo: Ambassador Kovač at the General Assembly of the Japan - Serbia Parliamentary League of Friendship

As part of celebrating the 140th anniversary of friendly relations between Serbia and Japan, the General Assembly of the Japan - Serbia Parliamentary League of Friendship was held. There, at the General Assembly, in the presence of President of the Japan-Serbia Parliamentary League of Friendship Ichiro Aisawa and its Executive Director Minoru Kuichi, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Japan Aleksandra Kovač addressed the members of the parliament, representatives of Japan`s MFA, Japan-Serbia Association, and Japanese companies that operate successfully in Serbia.

She stated that this, in international relations, rarely long period of friendship between the two countries was marked with various challenges of history, emphasising that the solidarity of the two peoples, manifested in very difficult times of wars and natural disasters, especially influenced the rapprochement of Serbia and Japan despite the large geographical distance between them.

She reminded of the strengthening of bilateral political dialogue, especially after the visit of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe to Serbia and expressed gratitude to the companies that invested throughout Serbia, thus contributing to its economic progress.

Ambassador Kovač expressed the expectation that the Parliamentary League would actively contribute to the celebration of this year's jubilee and to the realisation of priorities and a series of activities, including high-level visits, strengthening cooperation with Japanese institutions, local authorities, private sector, as well as through joint projects in the field of culture, education and sport.

Ambassador Kovač emphasised that Serbia remained committed to the path of European integrations and would continue to strongly advocate for the preservation and improvement of peace and stability in our region.
