Trieste: Award presented to Stefano Pilotto

12. Aug 2021.
The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Trieste, Ivana Stojiljković, presented the decoration on the occasion of the Statehood Day, which was awarded to Professor Stefano Pilotto by decree of the President of the State, Aleksandar Vučić.

Professor Pilotto was awarded a letter of thanks and a gold medal for special merits in representing interests, protection of international rights and promotion of historical facts related to Serbia and the Serbian people.

Whenever he has the opportunity, this great friend of Serbia and the Serbian people does his best to reveal the truth about the suffering of Serbs in Croatia during the "Storm", the suffering of Serbs in B&H, as well as the facts about the last injustice done to Serbia, during the 1999 bombing.

For years, Professor Pilotto has been taking groups of students from the prestigious Faculty of Political Sciences in Gorizia to visit and get to know Kosovo and Metohija, and he has done so over 30 times.

He independently made an extraordinary presentation of Serbian history from the Nemanjić dynasty to the present day, with special reference to the significance of the events that took place in our area from 1991 until today.

Also, in Trieste in 2017, together with the Ambassador of Serbia to UNESCO at the time, Dr. Darko Tanasković, he held a conference entitled "Serbian Orthodox Cultural and Religious Heritage in Kosovo and Metohija".

The biggest and most famous merit of professor Pilotto from Trieste was the initiative to launch a petition for the withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo by the Republic of Italy, at the end of 2018, and the establishment of a Committee of ten eminent Italians, including, in addition to Professor Pilotto, Honorary Consul Loretta Baggio from Treviso, journalist Stefano Vernole from Modena, and philosopher Francesco Lamendola from Treviso.

Members of the Committee, Professor Stefano Pilotto and Honorary Consul Loretta Baggio, submitted the petition in 2019 to the Italian Government and Parliament in Rome requesting the withdrawal of recognition of the so-called state of Kosovo with a total of 5,663 signatures, collected over three months through forms and an online petition, which was signed by another 27,323 people from around the world.

Consul General Ivana Stojiljković nominated Professor Stefano Pilotto for this prestigious award and on that occasion pointed out that it was a great honor for her to be able to present him with this well-deserved decoration on behalf of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and on behalf of the Serbian people.
