Jovanović confers with the Deputy United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nevena Jovanović, met on the margins of the 61st session of the high-level segment of the Human Rights Council in Geneva with Nada Al-Nashif, Deputy United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The interlocutors discussed current issues related to the protection and promotion of human rights, as well as the challenges facing the multilateral system in the present international context.

The Deputy High Commissioner underlined that the current global environment poses significant challenges to multilateralism, while noting that the prevailing sense of optimism and the constructive atmosphere characterizing the 61st session are encouraging. She emphasized that this is a moment for strengthened solidarity and joint action.

Jovanović reaffirmed Serbia’s strong support for the work of the Human Rights Council and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, underscoring that Serbia, as a candidate country for membership in the European Union, remains firmly committed to the continuous strengthening and advancement of human rights in line with the highest international standards.

She also stressed that the Republic of Serbia counts on an active international presence with regard to the protection of the rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, highlighting the importance of consistent implementation of international norms and the continuation of dialogue as key mechanisms for improving the position and security of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija.
