Minister Dacic receives EEAS Deputy Director-General Makovec

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with Marko Makovec, Director and Deputy Managing Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans, Turkey and the United Kingdom at the European External Action Service (EEAS).

Minister Dacic informed the interlocutor in detail about the latest developments in Kosovo and Metohija, particularly emphasizing all the measures taken by Serbia in order to deescalate the situation. We reiterated our principled commitment to resolving all outstanding issues in the process of normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina peacefully, while adhering to all agreements reached so far, primarily the Brussels Agreement, which was reached with the mediation of the European Union. Makovec underlined serious concern regarding the events in Banjska on 24 September and the importance of establishing the circumstances through an investigation. He emphasized the necessity of reducing tensions, deescalation and returning to the EU-facilitated dialogue.

The current moment in the European integration of Serbia was also discussed, with special focus on the reform measures that were taken in the previous period. Both parties agreed that the reform process needed to continue while also accelerating the negotiation process, in accordance with the strategic foreign policy goal of Serbia to join the EU. Makovec referred to the initiatives related to the enlargement process.

Dacic and Makovec exchanged views on the most important international issues of mutual interest for Serbia and the European Union.
