Political Consultations between Serbia and Finland Held in Helsinki
During the consultations, bilateral relations between the two countries were reviewed, noting the intensification of bilateral political dialogue through the implementation of joint activities and reciprocal visits. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the recent return visit of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, to Finland, which took place in early March 2026.
Economic cooperation, the ICT sector, environmental protection, healthcare, and forestry were identified as areas of mutual interest with potential for further advancement.
Special attention was devoted to the process of European integration of the Republic of Serbia and the region, as well as to other current issues of relevance to the European Union. On that occasion, the Finnish side reiterated its support for the European Union’s enlargement policy.
The Serbian side pointed to the extremely difficult position of the Serbian and other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo and Metohija and reaffirmed its commitment to the Belgrade–Pristina dialogue.
Views were also exchanged on the current situation in Ukraine and on other issues of key importance for European security.
During their stay in Helsinki, the Serbian delegation also held separate meetings with Outi Holopainen, State Under-Secretary for Foreign and Security Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, as well as with Mina Kivimäki, State Secretary for EU Affairs in the Office of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia was led by Ambassador Tamara Rastovac Siamašvili, Acting Assistant Minister for Bilateral Cooperation, and included Katarina Lalić Smajević, Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation; Miloš Todorović, Acting Assistant Minister for the European Union; Milena Mitić, Head of the Department for Europe; and Aleksandar Janković, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Finland.
The delegation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland was led by Ambassador Sari Rautio, Director General for Euro-Atlantic Affairs, and included Mia Lahti, Director of the Department for Southeast Europe and EU Enlargement at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
