Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the elections held in Taiwan

In connection with the elections held in Taiwan on 13 January 2024, we take this opportunity to emphasize that the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with our consistent policy and advocacy for adherence to the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, supports the policy of "one China" in a principled and consistent manner, that it does not recognize the statehood of Taiwan, and considers the central Government in Beijing to be the only legitimate Government of the Chinese people.

The Republic of Serbia fully supports the territorial integrity, sovereignty and unity of the People's Republic of China, and our official position, which will remain unchanged, is that Taiwan is an integral and inseparable part of the People's Republic of China.

The Republic of Serbia attaches special importance and significance to its excellent political relations and all-round cooperation with the People's Republic of China, based on the comprehensive strategic partnership and ironclad friendship between the two peoples.
