Dačić at the MFA of Tajikistan on the development of overall relations

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, met today in Dushanbe with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin, with whom he discussed the establishment of closer cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Dačić pointed out that this was the first official visit by a Serbian foreign minister and a signal of our desire to work hard on future relations and to make the friendship between the two countries more effective.

The head of Serbian diplomacy assessed that the two countries enjoy friendly relations, without any open questions, but that our friendly ties have not had concrete results for a long time, and that it was necessary to form a Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation in the coming period and improve our friendship through various forms of cooperation.

Dačić underlined the importance of today's opportunity to discuss plans for encouraging cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, agriculture, tourism, energy, sports, and culture, and the possibility of signing new agreements, and expand the existing contractual-legal base.

The head of Serbian diplomacy emphasised the importance of initiating a political consultation mechanism that will give impetus to the progress and direction of our overall cooperation in the coming period, and also help define the areas of mutual interest.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, welcomed the head of Serbian diplomacy and expressed belief that this visit by the Serbian head of diplomacy to Tajikistan will give a new impetus to our relations, as well as raise the cooperation of our countries to a higher level.

Minister Muhriddin pointed out that Tajikistan sees Serbia as an important partner for cooperation in numerous areas and added that the exchange of visits at the highest level will further strengthen our cooperation.

The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that this visit will push forward the relations between the two countries, and added that he will work with his Tajik colleague on the preparation of a presidential visit.
