The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, participated today in New York at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Western Balkans with the ministers of the “Friends of the Western Balkans” group.

Minister Đurić underlined that full membership in the European Union is a strategic commitment and the highest foreign policy priority of Serbia. He assessed that this represents a long-term vision that defines the direction of our state and society.

He stressed that Serbia has set itself a clear and ambitious goal to complete all necessary reforms and fully align its legislation with that of the European Union by the end of 2026, thereby enabling the citizens of Serbia to enjoy a higher standard of living, greater stability, prosperity, and an improved quality of life.

Minister Đurić noted that Serbia highly values the European Union’s commitment to preserving the European perspective of the Western Balkans. He added that the European path stands as a guarantee of cooperation in addressing common challenges and contributes to the prosperity and stability of the region.

He pointed out that initiatives such as the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans and the Growth Plan already demonstrate the value of partnership and solidarity, emphasizing that Serbia is actively engaged in regional projects that strengthen connectivity, energy efficiency, and digital development throughout the Western Balkans.

Speaking about the accession process, Đurić stressed that Serbia requires clear and measurable criteria as well as recognition of the results already achieved.

The Serbian Foreign Minister further underscored that Serbia is ready to accelerate reforms, adding that the timely opening of new negotiating clusters—particularly Cluster 3—would provide additional motivation and momentum on our path toward full membership.
