12. Oct 2026.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić held a telephone conversation today with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Vijitha Herath to discuss the further advancement of bilateral relations, the strengthening of political dialogue and opportunities for expanding economic cooperation.

Minister Đurić emphasised that, despite the geographical distance between them, Serbia and Sri Lanka enjoy a long-standing friendship and tradition of cooperation rooted in the principles of the United Nations and the values of the Non-Aligned Movement. He also expressed Serbia’s particular pleasure at having hosted a Sri Lankan delegation, led by Deputy Minister Aruna Hemachandra, at the Commemorative Meeting in Belgrade marking the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Đurić expressed his gratitude to Sri Lanka for its principled and consistent support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, reflected also in its steadfast position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of so-called “Kosovo”. Underscoring the considerable potential for further deepening bilateral relations, built on decades of friendship between the two countries, the Serbian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Serbia’s interest in intensifying political dialogue, promoting exchanges of visits at the high and highest levels, and expanding economic cooperation.

Highlighting opportunities to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and tourism, Đurić proposed that Sri Lanka consider participating in the International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad and the International Tourism Fair in Belgrade.

Minister Đurić also invited Sri Lanka to participate in the Specialised Expo 2027, to be held in Belgrade from 15 May to 15 August next year, noting that more than 140 countries have alreadyconfirmed their participation.
