Đurić: Serbia is one of the key European partners of western hemisphere countries

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Đurić, stated today at the conclusion of the 55th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held in Antigua and Barbuda, that Serbia’s participation in the summit has cemented its position as one of the key European partners of countries in the Western Hemisphere.

As Minister Đurić emphasized, Serbia was the “good news” of this year’s OAS summit, as it stood among those demonstrating genuine concern for the equal standing of small island nations in the Caribbean and countries of Central and South America.

“We presented a positive image of our economic progress and the opportunities Serbia has to offer. And let us not forget – this is not just theoretical. Today, in the fields of IT and the software industry – which has become Serbia’s key sector and is now twice the size of agriculture – our strongest partners are precisely in this part of the world, the Western Hemisphere,” Đurić explained.

According to him, Serbia’s presence in Antigua and Barbuda was also important in relation to the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, which, as he noted, has already provoked unease in Priština.

“This is extremely significant for Serbia’s positioning within the United Nations, where a number of matters important to our country are being addressed, including regional issues – from matters in our immediate neighborhood to various historical topics important to a country that gave millions of lives in both World Wars,” Đurić said.

One of the key topics for the Serbian delegation, he highlighted, was the Specialized Expo 2027 exhibition, to be hosted in Belgrade.

“There are certainly more confirmations of participation to come. Just as we secured the confirmation of all Pacific countries after our visits to that region, I can now say with confidence that the entire Caribbean region will be present at the Expo,” Đurić stated.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the series of high-level bilateral meetings—fifteen in just three days—covering a range of areas including the economy, politics, security, and global affairs.

He particularly underscored the importance of his meeting with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Serbia’s positioning in the Western Hemisphere, as well as the signing of a visa abolition agreement with the friendly country of Saint Lucia.

“I am leaving here satisfied, with a wealth of valuable content, new contacts, new agreements, and new understandings,” concluded Minister Đurić.
