The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, stated this evening, at the conclusion of his visit to Israel, that, following meetings at the highest level and a series of agreements reached, including the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership, the visit had confirmed a strong commitment to further advancing relations between the two countries, as well as a clear affirmation of Serbia’s state and national interests.

Minister Đurić noted that, during the visit, he held discussions with Israel’s highest-ranking officials, including the President, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as with representatives of the political, cultural, and business communities. He particularly highlighted a four-hour meeting with his Israeli counterpart and underscored, as a significant outcome of the visit, the establishment of the Serbian-Israeli Business Council, which is expected to contribute to strengthening economic cooperation.

Assessing the results of the visit, the Minister emphasized that Serbia’s objective had been to deepen relations with one of the world’s most influential countries and a nation with a long history and global impact, noting that this objective had been successfully achieved.

“I will always, for as long as I hold this position, stand firmly behind Serbia’s state and national interests and the policy we have formulated together with the President,” Đurić stated, adding that it was precisely such a policy that had enabled the elevation of Serbia–Israel relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

“We came here for Serbia, for our history, but also for our future, and today I can say that we have succeeded,” Đurić stressed.

He further added that Serbia enjoys an unprecedented level of respect in Israel, and that the same applies to the President of Serbia within the country’s political circles.

Referring to the presentation of the book “Ustashe Crimes: A Collection of Documents (1941–1942)”, held this evening in Jerusalem, Đurić underscored the importance of preserving historical memory so that future generations may understand the past and prevent the recurrence of such crimes.

“Care for the preservation of memory must ensure a sound foundation for the future and prevent the evil our peoples have endured from ever recurring,” Minister Đurić emphasized.
