The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, concluded his official visit to the Swiss Confederation today with a visit to the commemorative plaque dedicated to Nikola Pašić in Zurich, marking the 180th anniversary of the birth of this prominent Serbian statesperson.

“Today we stand in front of the house in Zurich that preserves the memory of the great Serbian statesman Nikola Pašić, who, during his studies at the Zurich Polytechnic, was inspired by the ideals of freedom and democracy and learned the importance of small nations fighting for their independence,” Minister Đurić stated.

Recalling Pašić’s historical legacy, Minister Đurić emphasized that he was a national leader who guided the Serbian people from a small Balkan principality to a large and powerful state.

“His perseverance, determination, and the ideology that united the Serbian people and contributed to the development of our institutions in the 19th century and the foundations of a modern Serbian state continue to inspire us today, as we work to build an independent and sovereign Serbia in challenging times,” he added.

“In this symbolic year—the 180th anniversary of Nikola Pašić’s birth—I am honored to pay tribute, on behalf of the Republic of Serbia, to the legacy of one of our great historical figures,” said Đurić.

He expressed hope that among the new generations of young Serbs studying in Switzerland and around the world, there will be those who will bring Serbia achievements comparable to those of Nikola Pašić.

“We are also grateful to our Swiss hosts for preserving the memory of one of the historical figures who serves as a bridge between our two countries and our two peoples,” concluded Minister Marko Đurić.
