Gratitude to Sudan for support regarding Kosovo and Metohija

10. Oct 2021.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met today in Belgrade with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi.

Selaković thanked his interlocutor for not recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, expressing expectation that Sudan will continue to provide support to Serbia in this issue in international organizations as well

Since the representatives of the two countries have not met officially since 2017, it was assessed that it is necessary to intensify high-level meetings, so that our traditionally good relations, based on sharing the same values, could reach their full potential.

The interlocutors stated that the economic cooperation between Serbia and Sudan is at a low level, and that it is far below the possibilities and the political relations between the two countries, which is why it is necessary to make efforts to improve it in the upcoming period.

It was assessed that there is great potential for improving cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, pharmacy, telecommunications, as well as in the construction sector, which the Sudanese minister will have the opportunity to discuss with Serbian officials and representatives of relevant institutions during her stay in Belgrade.

Minister Selaković also stated that there is a large space for strengthening scientific, cultural, sports and educational cooperation, saying that our country is ready to provide scholarships for four times more students, postgraduates and doctoral students from Sudan within the "World in Serbia" project. He emphasized that this means that from next year, one hundred young people from Sudan will be able to study in our country every year with the support of Serbia, for which the head of Sudanese diplomacy was very grateful.
