To improve relations between Serbia and Kuwait in the direction of strategic partnership

10. Oct 2021.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah.

Expressing satisfaction with the fact that for the first time in recent history, a head of Kuwaiti diplomacy is visiting Serbia, Minister Selaković pointed out that our two countries have traditionally friendly relations, which date back to the former SFRY and the Non-Aligned Movement.

In the conversation, Selaković expressed Serbia's interest in improving overall bilateral relations with Kuwait, emphasizing that, in addition to maintaining a regular political dialogue, it is important to work on improving economic cooperation between the two countries. As he pointed out, economic relations and businessmen should follow excellent political ties.

He is convinced that the cooperation within the Joint Commission for economic and technical cooperation, which is an important mechanism for the realization of specific programs, but also the expansion of contractual and legal regulations, will contribute to that. He stressed that the two countries have a special interest and potential for improving cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, IT and education.

At the meeting, the possibility of signing an Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Kuwait was also discussed, through which a broader framework of primarily economic cooperation would be established, as well as other forms of bilateral cooperation, and which would, in essence, have the character of a strategic partnership agreement.
