Improving economic cooperation between Serbia and Iran on the basis of friendly relations

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, spoke today, on the sidelines of a high-level meeting dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first NAM conference, with the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy of Iran, Mahdi Safari.

Selaković pointed out that the political relations between the two countries are good and that they are characterized by friendship and mutual understanding, reminding that next year we will mark the 85th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

According to the Minister, Serbia has a very clear commitment and wants to intensify the political dialogue with Iran, expressing hope that the exchange of visits at the highest level will be realized in the near future.

Selaković said that, on the basis of friendly relations between the two countries, it is necessary to work on the improvement of economic cooperation, stating that there are potentials in many areas, such as agriculture, energy, construction, and tourism.

The head of Serbian diplomacy thanked Iran for its principled position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, and especially for its unequivocal support on which we can rely within international organizations.

The Minister also referred to the traditionally good cooperation in the field of education and added that we want to enable as many students from Iran as possible to study in our country through the “World in Serbia” program.
