Italy is one of the most important political and economic partners of Serbia

30. May 2022.
Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selaković received a farewell visit from Italian Ambassador Carlo Lo Cascio.

Noting very good, strategic relations between Serbia and Italy, Minister Selaković described Italy as one of the most important political and economic partners of Serbia, evident from the regular high-level meetings such as the one planned with Head of Italian diplomacy Luigi Di Maio who was expected to visit Serbia soon.

Minister Selaković underlined that Serbia's full membership in the European Union was the priority of Serbia`s foreign policy and Serbia’s strategic commitment, thanking Italy for the support it provided to Serbia on that path as well as for Minister Di Maio’s position which he had expressed at the opening of Cluster 4 that Serbia had the full potential to move towards the European Union.

The interlocutors also discussed the status of dialogue between Belgrade and Priština. Minister Selaković reiterated that Serbia`s goal was to reach a compromise, sustainable, and mutually acceptable solution, while the behaviour and actions of the other side did not show that, namely Priština's application for the Council of Europe membership.

At the end of the visit, Minister Selaković thanked Ambassador Lo Cascio for his very notable engagement, good cooperation, and improvement of relations between Serbia and Italy during his tenure in Serbia and wished him a successful continuation of his career.
