Minister Selaković on a call with Italy’s Foreign Affairs Minister

Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković held a conference call with Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio.

Minister Selaković expressed satisfaction with the overall relations between Serbia and Italy, which he said had been constantly advancing owing to the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in 2009.

Minister Selaković said that Minister Di Maio was expected to visit Belgrade in the forthcoming period when it would also be a good moment to hold a business forum.

As regards economic cooperation, Minister Selaković pointed out that Italy was one of Serbia's leading economic partners, the third foreign trade partner and the second largest export market, as well as one of the ten largest foreign investors.

Minister Selaković underlined the great importance of Italy's commitment to the EU enlargement process, and expressed gratitude for Italy’s continuous and strong support for Serbia to join the EU.

Minister Selaković informed his interlocutor about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and the position of the Serbian people in the Province. On that note, he emphasised that Serbia highly appreciated Italy's role in the security and stability in Kosovo and Metohija and its contribution to the process of dialogue between Belgrade and Priština.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in the region and in Eastern Europe, with Minister Selaković stressing that Serbia was committed to peace and stability.

Minister Di Maio congratulated Minister Selaković on the results President Aleksandar Vučić and the Serbian Progressive Party achieved in yesterday's elections.
