Selakovic and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burundi discuss the intensification of cooperation between the two countries

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selakovic had a telephone conversation today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Burundi Albert Shingiro.

On this occasion, Selakovic pointed out that deepening bilateral cooperation with the countries of the African continent was one of Serbia's foreign policy priorities and that our country desired to intensify relations with Burundi.

 

Recalling that Serbia and Burundi are marking 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, Selakovic emphasized that we are open to exchanging visits at the high and top levels and invited Minister Shingiro to visit Serbia this year.

The Head of Serbian diplomacy stated that our side was interested in promoting bilateral cooperation in various areas such as trade, defence and security, education and sports.

He added that Serbia wished to develop and expand economic relations with Burundi, which included increasing the volume of trade in goods, and that there was a great interest on our part in the development of agricultural cooperation.

Minister Selakovic expressed special gratitude for the support lent by Burundi to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

According to Minister Selakovic, mutual support extended in international organizations on issues of national interest was a proof of friendship between the two countries and a solid basis for the further enhancement of cooperation at the bilateral level.

The interlocutors also exchanged information on the epidemiological situation and Minister Selakovic took the opportunity to offer Burundi assistance in the form of anti-Covid vaccines.
