Selaković: To make additional efforts towards full membership in the OIF

24. Jun 2021.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, stated today that additional efforts are needed in the forthcoming period in order for our country to get closer to the goal of full membership in the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).

Opening the second meeting of the Working Group for Cooperation with the OIF at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Selaković pointed out that progress should be made primarily in terms of improving the learning of the French language, especially in primary schools.

The Minister stated that it is extremely important that our efforts so far have been recognized by the Francophone University Agency (AUF), which recognizes us as a regional leader in this field, which is why it decided to open a regional office in Belgrade that will, in addition to Serbia, also cover Croatia, B&H, Slovenia and Northern Macedonia.

Noting that the ministries of the Government of Serbia got involved in this year's celebration of the Month of Francophonie in an extraordinary way, Selaković invited the members of this interdepartmental working group to get involved in preparing Serbia's appearance at the Francophonie Summit in Djerba, on 20 and 21 November, where Serbia and its culture should be presented in the best possible way.

Minister Selaković also pointed out the need to continue the realization of French language classes at the initial level for civil servants of the Republic of Serbia.
