Selaković: Serbia and Guatemala share and fight for the same values

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met with the President of the Congress of Guatemala, Allan Estuardo Rodríguez today.

Expressing satisfaction with the official visit to Guatemala, Selaković said that Serbia is committed to strengthening political dialogue and overall cooperation with this friendly country.

Selaković said that Serbia and Guatemala, despite the great geographical distance, share and fight for the same values ​​in the world. He added that it is important for the two countries and peoples, which cultivate such friendship, to maintain the level of bilateral visits.

Selaković pointed out that it is necessary to intensify inter-parliamentary cooperation, and invited the President of the Congress to visit Serbia and the National Assembly. He informed his interlocutor that there is a Friendship Group with Guatemala in the Serbian Parliament, which counts six members.

Selaković underlined that Serbia highly appreciates the consistent position of Guatemala on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, thanking Guatemala for its commitment to respect international law. The President of the Congress emphasized that the support of friendly Guatemala on this issue will be continued.

The interlocutors jointly pointed out the fact that the two countries will mark 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, and agreed that such a jubilee deserves to be adequately marked.

On this occasion, the head of Serbian diplomacy personally congratulated the President of the Congress on the 200th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Guatemala, and later today, the Minister will attend a solemn session organized by the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Congress on this occasion.
