Selaković: Serbia is interested in intensifying political dialogue and strengthening cooperation with Syria

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met today with the chargé d'Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Serbia, Ammar Awad.

Wishing the charge d'affaires a.i. a welcome and success in his work, Selaković expressed expectation that Syria, based on the principle of reciprocity, will raise the level of its diplomatic representation in our country to the ambassadorial level.

He said that Serbia and Syria are bound by a traditional and sincere friendship from the time of the SFRY and cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement, and that it is necessary to continue with the further development of cooperation and improvement of bilateral relations.

Selaković conveyed that Serbia was interested in intensifying political dialogue, strengthening economic cooperation and trade exchange with Syria.

The head of Serbian diplomacy expressed special satisfaction with the fact that the Syrian delegation, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Mekdad, will attend the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the First Conference of the NAM in Belgrade.

Selaković thanked for the principled position of Syria regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, saying that our country considers it a confirmation of Syria's commitment to the principles of international law and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Minister expressed hope that the situation in Syria will be stabilized soon, emphasizing that Serbia is vitally interested in a safe and prosperous region of the Middle East.
