Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia

28. Sep 2025.
With regard to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina of 27 September 2025, in which the Republic of Serbia is criticized for allegedly interfering in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia expresses its disagreement and disappointment. The remarks of Ambassador Zlatko Lagumdžija, who on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina commented on the meetings of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, held on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, represent a direct interference in the sovereign foreign policy of Serbia and a violation of fundamental diplomatic principles.

We strongly condemn the contradictory stance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, following President Vučić’s response, resorted to accusations of Serbia’s “interference” in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such an approach is not only inconsistent, but also an attempt to mislead the public, thereby undermining trust and good-neighborly relations. These actions do not contribute to regional stability but instead create unnecessary tensions and divert attention from the real challenges Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing.

The Republic of Serbia remains committed to advancing regional cooperation and dialogue, but expects mutual respect for sovereignty and restraint from provocative statements. We call upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina to focus on constructive engagement and addressing its internal challenges, rather than on actions that weaken its credibility and sow discord in the region.
