Political relations

On 4 May 2017, the Government of the Republic of Serbia established May 25 as the Day of Friendship with the Peoples of Africa.

Bilateral relations with Liberia are traditionally good and there are mutual initiatives to improve bilateral relations.

Diplomatic relations between the SFRY and Liberia were established in 1959, and in 2019 we marked 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Liberia is among the first countries in sub-Saharan Africa with which Yugoslavia has established diplomatic relations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, was on an official visit to the Republic of Serbia, from June 20 – 22, 2018, and the delegation also included the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Eugene Lenn Nagbe. In August 2018, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Liberia V. Sirleaf met with the then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dačić, as well as with the then Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government B. Ružić and Assistant Minister of Internal Affairs S. Nedeljković.

 

Economic relations

In 2020, exports amounted to 554,000 euros, while there were no imports. In 2019, from January to November, Serbia’s exports to Liberia amounted to 200.000 euros, while imports amounted to 26.300 euros.

 

Bilateral agreements

Agreement (exchange of notes) on the establishment of diplomatic relations, date of signature and entry into force: 15 September 1959.

Agreement on trade, navigation and economic cooperation SFRY-Liberia, date of ratification: 26 June 1963.

Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Institute of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, date of signature and entry into force: 20 June 2018.
