Acting Assistant Minister for Security Policy, Dijana Ivančić, talked today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Nathaniel Adler, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States, who is leading the American delegation during the Bilateral Defense Consultations between the Republic of Serbia and the United States.

Ambassador Ivančić emphasized that further improvement of overall bilateral relations with the United States is one of the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia.

She pointed out her satisfaction that the renewal of the practice of holding Bilateral Defense Consultations comes in the year in which we mark 140 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as 15 years of successful implementation of the cooperation program with the Ohio National Guard.

She stressed that preserving peace and stability in the region and seeking solutions to all open issues through dialogue is Serbia's priority goal, and thanked Washington for its continued support for Serbia's European integration process, the dialogue process between Belgrade and Pristina under the auspices of the European Union, as well as for the economic progress of Serbia and the region.

It was mutually assessed that, in terms of scope and content, military cooperation is one of the most successful areas of bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America.

Opinions were also exchanged on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, partnership cooperation between Serbia and NATO, current issues of regional cooperation, as well as a wide range of geopolitical issues.

The conversation was also attended by the US Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, Anthony Godfrey, Major General Steven Stivers, Chief of the Joint Force Headquarters of the Ohio National Guard, as well as Brigadier General Nicholas Gentile, Deputy Director for Partnering and Security Cooperation of the US Armed Forces.
