Relations between Serbia and Turkiye at highest level in recent history

02. Sep 2022.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković met today in Belgrade with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Minister Selaković stated that the relations between Serbia and Turkiye were at their highest level in recent history, and that this was, without a doubt, partly because of the good personal and professional relationship between the two Presidents, Aleksandar Vučić and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Minister Selaković and Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed their belief that the upcoming visit by President Erdoğan and the planned signing of a series of intergovernmental agreements would give an additional boost to the development of overall bilateral relations.

They were particularly pleased by the progressively more intense economic cooperation between Serbia and Turkiye, and highlighted this year’s considerable trade growth.

Minister Selaković informed Minister Çavuşoğlu about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija. He stated that Serbia was still counting on Turkiye’s further support in the matter of the continuing dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which would lead to a compromise and a mutually acceptable solution, and contribute to the preservation of peace and stability.

Other regional topics and the current geopolitical situation were also discussed at the meeting.
