Serbia establishes diplomatic relations with Timor-Leste and Solomon Islands

Serbia has established diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Solomon Islands, and joint communiques in this connection were signed in New York by Ambassador Nemanja Stevanovic and representatives of those countries to the United Nations.

The Communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Timor-Leste, on behalf of the governments of the two countries, was signed by the Permanent Representatives of Serbia and Timor-Leste to the United Nations, Nemanja Stevanovic and Karlito Nunes respectively.

The statement underlines that the countries were guided by the desire to encourage mutual understanding and strengthen cooperation in the political, economic, tourism, educational, sports, cultural, humanitarian and other areas of common interest.

On the same day, Nemanja Stevanovic and Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. Noel Martin Matea, on behalf of the Serbian Government and the Solomon Islands Government, signed a Joint Communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, in which it is agreed that the two countries will exchange diplomatic representatives on a non-resident basis at the level of ambassadors.
