During his stay in Kampala for the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Jeje Odongo Abubakhar.

Minister Đurić congratulated his Ugandan counterpart on Uganda’s successful chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement and the excellent organization of the ministerial meeting.

Noting that Serbia proudly upholds the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement and remains committed to the respect of its principles as universal values, Minister Đurić emphasized that this gathering represents an opportunity to further strengthen traditionally friendly ties and to build new bridges of cooperation with Uganda, as well as with other African countries.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed particular gratitude for Uganda’s principled support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, and for its firm position on non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.

Discussing prospects for economic cooperation, the two ministers agreed that there is significant potential for its enhancement, given the growing needs of both economies and the promising opportunities offered by the agri-food sector, ICT, construction, energy, science, and innovation.

With regard to cooperation in education, Minister Đurić underlined that the “World in Serbia” scholarship program is being successfully implemented and expressed hope that an even greater number of Ugandan students will apply to study in Serbia.

Minister Đurić conveyed his particular satisfaction with Uganda’s participation in the Specialized International Exhibition EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, highlighting that the event will provide an excellent opportunity for Uganda to showcase its rich culture and traditions at a manifestation of global prominence.
