Cooperation of Serbia and Program for Settlements – UN Habitat

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nemanja Starović, has received today the Executive Director of the United Nations Program for Settlements (UN Habitat), Mohd Sharif, who is in her first visit to Belgrade.

Starović expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all necessary assistance and support in the realization of planned programs and projects under the auspices of the UN Habitat in the Republic of Serbia.

The State Secretary said that the presence of this United Nations agency in our country came at the right moment because Serbia needed support in facing growing problems of the sustainability of cities.

He especially indicated to the obligation of the UN to function at the territory of Kosovo and Metohija in compliance with the Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council and to adhere to the principle of status neutrality.

Mohd Sharif said that during her mandate she would tend to continually develop and additionally promote the so far successful cooperation, which could be formalized in future through adequate presence of the UN Habitat in Serbia.

She indicated to their awareness of the obligation to, as a program from the United Nations system, maintain status neutrality and adhere to the Resolution 1244 of the UN SC, which the staff of this program completely adhered to.
