Foreign Minister Selaković: Broad space for developing cooperation between Serbia and Cameroon

During his visit to Cameroon, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković met with Cameroonian Minister of Agriculture Gabriel Mbairobe. He noted during their talks that there was a great potential for cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially in the field of agriculture.

Minister Selaković pointed out that this was the first visit of a Serbian Minister and the State Secretary from the Ministry of Agriculture to Cameroon after 38 years, adding that he had high hopes for closer cooperation between the two countries. "Our cooperation is based on friendly relations and both sides will benefit from it." ― he said.

Minister Selaković noted that he came to convey a message of friendship from the Serbian people to the people of Cameroon on behalf of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, and emphasised that the two countries had a long tradition of cooperation which should be expanded to include other areas. "We consider Cameroon as a 'hub' for the whole market in central Africa." ― he said.

As for Serbian agricultural products, the Serbian Foreign Minister said that an agreement on cooperation between Serbia and Cameroon in the field of agriculture was being prepared. He clarified that the agreement would include trade, education of young people from Cameroon at the universities in Serbia, as well as the opportunity for them to build their experience at Serbia’s famous scientific and research institutes. "We have excellent institutes as well as an outstanding agricultural machinery industry." ― he noted.

Minister Selaković said that Serbia was prepared to send a delegation of agricultural experts to visit Cameroon in order to explore the best potentials for the said future cooperation. Likewise, he conveyed the invitation of the Serbian Minister of Agriculture to Minister Mbairobe to visit Serbia and the largest international agricultural fair held annually in Novi Sad. "We firmly believe that the establishment of these direct contacts is a key condition for any future cooperation." ― he stated.

Minister Selaković added that once he has concluded all his talks in Cameroon, he would consider opening a trade representative office in Yaounde or another city, with the objective of managing the cooperation between the two countries as well as concrete forms of cooperation in the field of agriculture.
