Selaković: Matica is an important factor in the promotion of cultural identity

23. Jun 2021.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Selaković, said today in Matica Srpska at a meeting with the President of that institution Dragan Stanić, that Matica Srpska is an extremely important pillar and factor in defining, developing and promoting what is the cultural identity of the Serbian people.

Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Matica Srpska will also be established through the Protocol on Cooperation, which will be signed in the coming period and which will define the areas of joint action, and how that cooperation will be implemented.

Selaković mentioned that the activities of Matica in Serbia and abroad show how the unification of the Serbian cultural elite can contribute to the preservation of the Serbian national identity.

"Matica Srpska, as the oldest cultural institution of our people, originated in the diaspora, and showed what the Serbian diaspora was able to organize and produce more than 180 years ago. Later, Matica moved to Novi Sad to get closer to the homeland, and in Serbia, it acted on the pride and honor of the entire Serbian people in Serbia, as it still does today", said Selaković.

Stanić said that there has always been exceptional cooperation with Minister Selaković, that this meeting also was constructive and of great importance, because, as he stated, the Minister understands very well the nature of Matica Srpska's activities and ways in which those activities in the field of culture can be connected with some other goals, which as an integrated society we should strive for together.

They also talked about the development of the network of cultural information centers, the continuation of work and the development of publishing activities, as well as other plans that should be implemented in the future.
