Selaković: Preservation of stability is a precondition for our further development

30. Jan 2022.
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković stated today that in recent years our country has achieved political stability, which is imperative for its further development - representing a positive example for the entire region.

Appearing as a guest in a Serbian Broadcasting Corp. news program, Foreign Minister Selaković said that if something is to be learned from the situation in our region, then it is the value and the rarity of the political stability that Serbia possesses.

"Whichever regional hotspot you may take into consideration, you will realize that the situation is precisely the opposite of the one that exists in Serbia. Over the past eight years, especially since 2014 when Mr. Vučić became head of government, and later when he came the head of state, we have succeeded in setting up and achieving the political stability that Serbia, its citizens and its economy need to develop further." - Mr. Selaković said, adding that the situation in the region, in our immediate environment, He

According to, Foreign Minister Selaković, we are understandably worried by the situation in the region, in our immediate neighborhood, because Serbia cannot be satisfied with being the only country prospering, whilst its neighbors are not doing so well and are shaken by major instability.

Mr. Selaković also stressed that being the only country in the region that was given the green light at the end of last year to continue the negotiation process towards EU membership, we are setting a good example of how this can be done.

In his opinion, Serbia will continue to expand and promote this example, and our region will always have a good neighbor who will strive to develop good relations and to achieve mutual stability and dialogue, this being the fundamental tool for solving all challenges, risks and threats.

Reacting to a question about the upcoming visit of US and EU special envoys Mr. Gabriel Escobar and Miroslav Lajčák, Foreign Minister Selaković said that the central topic of the trilateral meeting will be the issue of dialogue between Belgrade and Priština as well as the things that burden those relations on the path to normalization.

"Will there really be a continuation of the dialogue and will there be a dialogue? Our permanent position which remains unchanged, is that Belgrade is always ready to sit at the negotiating table, always ready and open to talks. However, it is completely clear and completely obvious to us that ever since Albin Kurti is the one making decisions in Priština, essentially no dialogue has been taking place, and most likely none will - as long as he is the decision maker." - Mr. Selaković said.

Foreign Minister Selaković emphasized that preserving peace and stability and protecting our state and national interests in Kosovo and Metohija is an absolute priority.

According to him, the number one topic in all his conversations with foreign officials is precisely the struggle for our state and national interests and their protection.

"We ponder our moves and make timely and wise decisions about our actions. The fact is that many countries want to hear Serbia. To hear and talk to Serbia as the fastest growing economy in Europe for two years in a row. A Serbia that demonstrated the ability to host our friends from the Non-Aligned Movement in a way that made a deep impression on them, a Serbia that's earnestly and rapidly developing due to President Vučić's policy." - Mr. Selaković said.

He also stressed that Serbia is building friendships and alliances, but it will certainly know how to react and act if someone acts provocatively towards it and if someone violates the agreements and agreements reached.

Asked about the Ukraine crisis, Foreign Minister Selaković noted that there are many challenges and that Serbia is very clear when it comes to its foreign policy: Serbia is a country on the European path but also a country that nurtures, promotes and establishes new friendships and cherishing and upholding traditional and string friendships.

"We cannot feel good knowing that in a broader region, in Eastern Europe, there are tensions that some consider a certain way to escalate the conflict. Any kind of conflict in our region or beyond it would go jeopardize our interests, especially when it comes to those factors that can affect the stability of the entire European continent that we are part of. I'd like to believe and hope that the tensions will subside." - Foreign Minister Selaković said.

He noted that the Russian Federation is our traditional friend and ally, that Ukraine is also a Slavic, Orthodox country, and that it's not good when any kind of conflict arises among those who lived in the same house until recently.
